Great little place. Varying on location, this was the closest to us. Staying with the kids during a heat wave in Descanso so we stayed mainly indoors. So we headed to this store for some popcorn, snacks, ice cream, and a whole pie. The place even had 1 dollar dvds but the place we stayed at didn't have a player. Overall nice place and reasonable prices considering it was the closest.

Established in 1875, this was one of the first Convenient Stores....and as a convenience, they are priced accordingly. Supply and demand. We drove here after camping in the near by National Forest. Due to the recent fires, the local gas station in Julian had lost electricity. We were happy to pay $4+/gallon for 87 Octane. Liquor and other amenities were over priced, but were available :)

Perkins Market has been in operation since 1875, before there were all y'all kids with your fancy telephones and websites. They got what you need here, whether it's duct tape, beer, wine, canned goods, local pies, or more duct tape. Perkins Market is a dust-covered granite rock in the high desert, and you can get all flustered at it for being priced higher than Albertson's down the way, but this is Perkins Market and it's been here since 1875 and it is gonna be here long after you are gone, so you might as well come in and smile and they'll treat you friendly. Face it, you ain't in Descanso because you want an Albertson's next door. Perkins Market goes right back to when this here town was caballeros and cows and not much else in the Valle de Guatay. Perkins Market got all the stuff you forgot down the mountain, and you best be right thankful it's still standing after 140 years, all you crazy kids and your fancy telephones.

I moved to Descanso on October 10th 2018. I needed supplies and didn't know what to expect, Perkins Market had a beautiful variety of essentials and even Morning Star vegetarian burger. We were met with friendly, helpfulness that I so appreciated. Thank you Perkins Market for your hospitality and convenience. Erlese Frazier New Neighbor

Perkins market provides a service for a community that otherwise would go without . being tourism is a big draw the prices are meant for tourists and not locals but if your willing to pay a few extra cents you can save yourself an hour driving to alpine and back just to save 20 cents on gas. They always stock fresh items .they daily have fresh donuts that rival Petersons donuts in Escondido.very friendly staff always helpful and polite. Now 1.99 for a Twinkie but why get a Twinkie when the donuts are top quality my name is Barnaby Schwartz and I endorse this message

A very friendly market, they have about everything you need. The prices are very competitive and some things are even cheaper than down the hill. It's a great place to stop in the morning for coffee and chat with the locals.

This place is great--- they have everything! Need cheesecloth? OK, they have it. Out of bacon? No problem. Want a decent local beer? Sure thing! Having a baby-bottle and canning-lid emergency? They've got you covered. This place isn't fancy (and the prices vary from cheap to expensive, depending on the item), but what a variety!

A local landmark as well as the best convience store in the area. Perkins has it all, as well as most people know everyone in the place. It's how small towns should be :) One thing, remember that gas goes up when there aren't many stations around. I wouldn't fill up here, just get ya enough to get to town. :)
